Around 05:30 this morning, Dauphin County alerted Company 88 and mutual aid companies to the 88-1 Box at 18 East High Street for a porch fire. Chief 88 (Scheetz) arrived on scene shortly after dispatch to find a 3 story duplex apartment building with fire showing and requested the full first alarm assignment as well as the second RIT. Engine 88 (Capt Fink) then arrived with a crew of six and laid in with the crew splitting to go to the 3rd floor apartment and the second floor apartment on the Delta side. Both crews encountered a moderate amount of fire throughout the apartments. Engine 88-1 (Lt. Menear) and Truck 88 then arrived with the Engine laying a second supply line after the Truck was positioned on the Alpha side. With the Truck crew going to the roof for ventilation on the Delta side, the Engine company crews attacked the fire and performed searches of the apartments while making the attack. Truck 46 also set up on the Alpha side and went to the roof opening up on the Bravo side of the roof. Command then requested the 2nd Alarm. Interior crews worked to extinguish the fire which proved to be difficult due to several false walls and ceilings. Rescue 88 also arrived on scene and assisted the Engine and Truck companies. Control was marked in under 45 minutes with extensive overhaul to follow. Crews remained on scene for several hours with the overhaul ops before the 88-1 Box was placed in service. One occupant was transported to a local hospital for treatment of burns. Great job to all crews on scene and congratulations to FF Adam Shope on cracking your first roof. Thanks to Palmyra Tower 1 and Linglestown Engine 35 for covering the borough as part of the 124th Fire Battalion.
