| BUSY DAY ENDS WITH A JOB IN HERSHEY |
| Thu, Feb 18th, 2010 12:00:00 am
Today, the daylight crews were kept busy with a total of five calls for the day. The first run came in shortly after 09:00 when the Tower(Capt. Coble), with 3 personnel, and A/C Krupilis responded to Dream Maker Transport, a local non-profit facility organized to keep kids off the streets and out of trouble. The Tower crew removed dangerous, large chunks of ice from the roof. Just as the Tower and A/C returned to quarters, Rescue 88(A/C Krupilis), with 4 personnel responded to an AFA in Hummelstown, but was cancelled while enroute. Crews then handled a public service, assisting West Shore EMS Para transit with taking a wheelchair bound patient back into her residence. The 4th call of the day was another medical assist, this time for an unknown medical emergency, to assist MICU 4-1 with forcible entry if needed. A/C Krupilis arrived and began patient care until the arrival of MICU 4-1 and Rescue 88. The fifth and final call for the day came in just before 16:00 when the Tower and Engine were dispatched on the 1st alarm assignment on Gramercy Place in the 48-3 Box. Truck 88(A/C Krupilis) with four and Engine 88(Capt. Scheetz) with four responded, with the Tower being assigned to get into a position to protect the Bravo exposure from above. The Engine arrived and picked up an additional water supply to supply Truck 48 for aerial master stream ops while the Tower was restricted from accessing the Bravo exposure due to multiple units on scene along with the large mounds of snow. The Tower crew was then re-assigned to check the Bravo exposure with all searches being negative. After completing that assignment, the Tower and Engine crew were assigned to Division 2 of the fire building to begin overhaul operations. While overhauling Division 2, crews cut multiple drain holes in the floors to drain the 10+ inches of water and attempt to prevent a collapse of Division 2. After extensive overhaul operations, the crews remained on scene for a while longer before being released by Command 48. Company 88 crews operated on the 48 box for just under 3.5 hours. Thanks to Truck 35 for covering the district during the 48 incident. |
