SWATARA TOWNSHIP HOUSE FIRE
Fri, Nov 27th, 2015 9:30:00 pm Around 21:30, Box 49-4(Swatara Fire) dropped for a reported house fire in the 700 block of Mohn Street. As the first Chief signed on the air, Dauphin County advised of multiple calls and that the 1st Alarm was "being sent," which adds Rescue-Engines 88 and 32-1(Progress Fire) for RIT. First in units encountered heavy fire from a single family home and started off with a defensive attack due to multiple downed power lines. With the 32-1 Rescue-Engine arriving ahead of 88, they were given the RIT assignment, as operations switched to an offensive attack. Upon arrival of Rescue-Engine 88(D/C Coble), with 5 personnel, Command was advised of a child now reported to be inside. The 88 crew was immediately assigned to search and split, quickly completing primary and secondary searches of Divisions 1-3, with negative results(the unaccounted for child was found to be in a neighboring house). After completing the searches, the crew was re-assigned to assist with opening up on Divisions 2 and 3. The crew split and assisted 49 and 32 crews with opening up Division 2, while a second team opened up Division 3, as fire was running the walls of the balloon framed house. Once the interior tasks were completed and the crews exited the building for a short break, and to change out cylinders, the fire was controlled. After the break session, a team of 2 personnel from 88 was assigned to open up the exterior wall on Side Delta, from the bucket of Truck 50, while Tower 32 worked the Alpha Side. With all walls opened up from the inside and outside, and all remaining hot spots extinguished, Command 49 began releasing units. The 88 crew assisted with several other small tasks before being released by Command just after 01:00 this morning.
