TWO HOMES WELL OFF IN PALMYRA

Saturday, June 23, 2007
-

This morning around 10:30am Engine 88 was dispatched to transfer to Palmyra Station 1 while they worked a fire in their first due. Engine 88 (Capt. Whitebread) responded after dispatch with 6 men. Shortly after response, Engine 88 was requested to go to the scene. On arrival the Engine crew was given the assignment to open the roof and put the fire out in the exposure building. Captain Whitebread, LT Eppinger and FF foreman gained access via a ground ladder to the fire on the 2nd floor and attic space and made an attack with an 1 3/4 line, while Captain Fink and LT Bragunier stretched a 2 1/2 to back them up. Chief Scheetz grabbed a saw and started to open the roof on the baker and delta sides of the building. Crews assisted with overhaul before returning to the Engine and then transferred to Station 1 to stand-by with Engine 7-4 and Truck 35. First in crews had their hands full on this one, good job to all companies that operated on this fire. Engine out for about 5 hours.

STORMS BRING A BUSY START TO THE MONTH

Friday, June 1, 2007
-
As storms were forecast to hit the area in the late afternoon and evening hours, crews started off the day, shortly after 11:30 hours, with an AFA at 320 Market Street on the 88-3 Box. Engine 88 (Lt. Eppinger) and Truck 88 (Capt. Coble) responded on the incident with Engine 59 and investigated, finding a faulty water flow switch. Just as the rain and storms started, the next run came in at 17:51 hours with Company 88 and Engine 59 being dispatched to the Feaser Middle School for an AFA. Chief 88 (Scheetz) quickly signed on the air and held the box to Engine 88 (Lt. Eppinger), reporting that he received a cell call approximately five minutes prior to the dispatch reporting the alarm to be activated by a pig roast at the school. The Chief and the Engine arrived finding Firefighter Casey Coble roasting a pig for a fifth grade luau. While the Chief and the Engine were attempting a reset on the alarm system, Truck 88(Capt. Coble) was dispatched to the 59-1 Box for an AFA. While the Truck was enroute to the AFA, numerous other storm related calls were being dispatched by Dauphin County. Truck 88 arrived at the 59 Box with Engine 59 and assisted with an investigation, which proved no problem. While the Truck was on scene of the 59 Box, Dauphin County again alerted for Company 88, this time for the Rescue to go to the PA Turnpike at Mile Marker 251 Westbound for an MVA with Entrapment. The Rescue (Lt. Eppinger) quickly responded and while enroute, Engine 54 arrived, confirming entrapment. Rescue 88 arrived and began extrication immediately as Engine 54’s crew had already cribbed the vehicle and began patient care on two patients. The Rescue crew worked with the Amkus tools to remove the roof from the sedan and then lift the dash to free the driver whom was pinned. While the Rescue continued to work the crash on the Turnpike, County again alerted for Company 88, with mutual aid units to 39 N. Union St. at the Saint Peters Lutheran Church for an AFA. Engine 88-1 (Lt. Menear) responded quickly and arrived to find the MPD reporting alarms at the church as well as an apartment building at 29 N. Union St. Truck 88 and Engine 59 then cleared the 59-1 Box to take in the AFA’s with Engine 88-1. Engine 88-1’s crew split to investigate both alarms finding that both were activated due to nearby lightning strikes and thunder. The Truck and Engine 59 then arrived with Capt. Coble establishing Command 88 as both crews went to assist with the investigations. After investigating both alarms with nothing found, both alarms were reset and the 88-1 Box was placed in service.
