BOAT AND DIVE TEAM 88 ASSIST COMPANY 54 AND PSP
Monday, May 28, 2007
-
Today at 14:16 hours, Boat 88 was dispatched to Box 54-9 (Londonderry), the Susquehanna River to assist PSP with a search detail. Company 88 responded with Boat 88 and Dive 88 (Capt. Cleland), to the Tri-County Boat Club. Upon arrival, crews were advised of a boater that had jumped from a pontoon boat at approximately 03:00 hours and had not been located. Boat 88 was launched and was assigned to respond to the head of Beshore Island to begin searching the waterway as Boat 54 searched the islands. After searching the area with nothing found, the Boat was given an exact location of were the subject had jumped from the boat. With a better location, the Dive team deployed with three divers to search for the subject. As the divers were searching, the PA Fish and Boat Commission had a boat with two officers keeping the dive area clear of boaters due to high boat traffic during the holiday. After making two dives and searching a rather large area water and land by boat, divers, and a PSP helicopter, the search was called off by Command 54 and PSP until further information could be obtained. The boat then returned to boat club where the crew placed all equipment back into service and cleared the incident. The subject was located two days later, deceased, by workers at the York Haven Hydro-Electric Plant.

Accident with possible entrapment
Saturday, May 12, 2007
-
Tonight at 11:56 hours, Rescue 88 was dispatched to PA Route 283 Westbound just prior to the Toll House Road exit, for a vehicle accident with possible entrapment. Rescue 88 (Chief Scheetz) and a crew of 8 men were out the door within minutes. Upon arriving on scene, crews found a car to be about 100 ft up an embankment, into the woods with one patient. The other vehicle was about a ¼ mile down the road on the shoulder, with a total 3 patients. With crews from Rescue 88 and Engine 54 splitting up, all patients were attended to until EMS units arrived. After all the patients were packaged and transported to the hospital, crews were posed with a new problem, The tow truck driver advised his towing cable would not be long enough to reach the car in the woods. Rescue 88 finally had the chance to use the new winch, after flipping the car back onto its wheels, the 88 crew then pulled the vehicle out. Crews were out for about 2 hrs. A great job done by all 88 and 54 personnel on the scene. Photos and video courtesy of Londonderry Fire Company. Click here for video
